Membership in a professional organization provides excellent opportunities for early childhood educators to get together and exchange ideas. Your involvement demonstrates your commitment to professional growth and improvement in the lives of young children. The following organizations are committed to meeting member’s needs by providing high quality member services and benefits. Belonging to an organization that offers increased knowledge and skills that will result in professional growth and success is what matters most.

 

Family Child Care Associations

Family child care associations are created specifically to support home-based providers of child care. Associations seek to enable these providers to do their work, while maintaining a healthy environment for both the children and the providers.

Associations represent members that experience the everyday ordeals and face the obstacles of running a small business in addition to providing the peer support, path to enhancing the professionalism of family child care and a link to the greater child care community.

Associations provide monthly meetings and workshops specifically designed for family child care providers. Listed below are associations serving Kern County family child care providers.

The Association for the Education of Young Children has three layers: the National Association, the State Association and the Local Association. Membership is fee based and includes benefits at all three levels.

National Association for the Education of

Young Children (NAEYC)

"The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) exists for the purpose of leading and consolidating the efforts of individuals and groups working to achieve healthy development and constructive education for all young children."

The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) is the nation's largest and most influential organization of early childhood educators and others dedicated to improving the quality of programs for children from birth through third grade.

Founded in 1926, NAEYC celebrated its 75th anniversary with over 100,000 members and a national network of nearly 450 local, state, and regional Affiliates. NAEYC Affiliate Groups work to improve professional practice and working conditions in early childhood education and to build public support for high quality early childhood programs. Membership is open to all who share a desire to serve and act on behalf of the needs and rights of young children.

NAEYC members can receive up-to-date publications that highlight today's topics in early childhood education, brochures, posters, videotapes, books and the Young Children journal. Members will receive access to nationally renowned accreditation through the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs plus access to low-cost insurance plans, childcare information and more

California Association for the Education of

Young Children (CAEYC)

The purpose of CAEYC is to serve and act on behalf of the needs and rights of young children with primary focus on the provision of educational services and resources to adults who work with and for children from birth through age eight.
CAEYC strives to:

  • Bring together people interested in the education of young children.
  • Encourage the study, interpretation and improvement of the education and well being of young children.
  • Improve and increase professional standards and educational opportunities of their teachers.
  • Keep informed of and cooperate with the activities of other groups concerned with the welfare and education of young children.
  • Investigate new trends in early childhood education.

CAEYC members will receive discounts on conference registration fees for the Annual Conference, Public Policy Symposium, training seminars and other professional development events. Members will be able to experience the power of Advocacy at the state level to help improve the profession and the lives of young children. Members will have access to internship programs, educational grants and awards, leadership opportunities, the CAEYC newsletter and much more.

Kern Association for the Education of Young

Children (Kern AEYC)

Membership with the Kern AEYC includes a linked membership to NAEYC and CAEYC.

The Mission of the Kern Association for the Education of Young Children is to provide a professional membership organization committed to promoting quality programs for young children and their families.

Goal Statement

To develop a strategy, through mentorship, which will enhance and promote opportunities for all individuals interested in the well-being of children and families to:

  • grow professionally
  • experience leadership roles
    network with others within the early childhood community

Local membership benefits include:

  • Free admittance to local Kern AEYC workshops
  • Eligibility for scholarships for continuing education in the field of early childhood education
  • Young Children magazine subscription (six issues per year) filled with current, useful information and ideas

Student - $35 per year (must be enrolled in 6 units)
Regular - $60 per year

Comprehensive - $110 per year (Comprehensive membership includes approximately 5 of NAEYC’s latest publications in addition to the benefits of Regular membership)
