Council Membership

The Early Childhood Council of Kern is comprised of 20 members with half each being appointed by the Kern County Board of Supervisors and the Kern County Superintendent of Schools. Council members are selected to represent specific areas of the community:

20% Child Care Consumer
20% Child Care Provider
20% Public Agency Representative
20% Community Representative
20% Appointed at the discretion of the appointing entity


Monthly General and Committee Meetings are open to the public. Community members are encouraged to participate with all committees. A Schedule of Child Care Council Meetings is available.

Early Childhood Council Responsibilities
To conduct an on-going assessment of the child care delivery system in Kern County.

  • To educate the County at large regarding child care issues
  • To continue strategic planning in order to be responsive to changing child care trends.
  • To expand the availability of and access to quality child care services for Kern County families

Children, Families and Child Care: A report on their status in Kern County offers a snapshot of child care in Kern County during 2003. The report provides countywide data about the relative need for services and the supply of child care available to families. The report displays specific data on the nine regions in which Kern County residents live and work, as well as the county as a whole
